Modalities Onboarding

Objective:

Develop a comprehensive training experience to introduce new instructional designers to the training modalities used by their department.

Objective:

Analyze outdated training content on Powered Material Handling Equipment Certification for the Receiving Department, provide a visual revamp to the solutions, and reoptimize to align with Adult Learning Principals.

APPROACH:

  • Observed existing certification training at store location to aid in analysis.
  • Reorganized flow and revised content to better support knowledge retention, while also adhering to the environmental constraints of the training locations.
  • Implemented an organized layout with distinct visual branding and visual cues to guide readers.

Allergen Awareness Poster

Objective:

Develop a set of English and Spanish allergen awareness posters to fulfill the requirements of Texas Health and Safety Code, Sec. 437.027.

TOOLS:

Adobe Programs (Photoshop, Fresco, Illustrator), DeepL

APPROACH:

  • Analyzed content and visual style of the provided examples.
  • Organized and led meetings and conducted review cycles with stakeholders to align on audience and business needs, compliance requirements, and visual aesthetic requests.
  • Worked to balance text with visual graphics and implement established company branding. Two drafts were provided; one example included hand-drawn characters, allowing for a level of image-based communication that could reduce text.
  • Finalized the stakeholder-selected poster and developed a Spanish version of the poster, utilizing AI translation tool, DeepL, and collaborating with our translation team for final review.

Pest Management
Doing Our Part

Objective:

Promote awareness surrounding pest awareness, proper reporting, and employee ownership of their cleanly work environment.

APPROACH:

  • Reports in annual company survey on satisfaction with workplace environment increased by 10%.

OUTCOME:

  • Met with regional leaders to discuss their warehouse observations and areas of concern.
  • Identified the warehouse’s TV network to be a strong tool for promoting the targetted organizational changes.
  • Worked with subject matter experts (SMEs) to build out and design scripts and storyboards for three videos.
  • Developed videos and conducted extensive review process with SMEs and stakeholders.

KDS
Onboarding

Objective:

Add kitchen display system (KDS) training content to restaurant onboarding.

TOOLS:

Adobe Programs (InDesign, Acrobat Pro)

APPROACH:

  • Conducted two in-store visits to observe KDS processes and procedures. The first took place at an established store and the second took place at a new location in Georgetown, TX.
  • Compiled observations and surveyed employees on their experiences with training for and using the KDS.
  • Analyzed existing training content to determine the optimal location for the KDS content addition.
  • Refined existing content to better address concerns that arose during the store visits.
  • Collaborated with SMEs and stakeholders to develop 3 training checklists and one printable reference tool to be placed by each register.

OUTCOME:

  • Managers from new restaurant launches gave positive feedback on the efficacy of the updated training content.
  • Reduction of KDS-related errors over 2 quarters among new restaurant locations in Austin and Dallas.


Objective:

A sustainability sector within the business planned on launching a waste diversion program at all locations in Houston at the end of Q2 of that year, with plans to do a state-wide launch later in the year. The stakeholder requested feedback and recommendations on their training content and launch plan.

APPROACH:

  • Conducted in-person store visit at exemplar store in Austin. During this visit, I spoke with Store Leaders, Department Managers, and wareroom Recievers and observed program processes while also modeling the store visit process for a new Instructional Designer on the team.
  • Compiled detailed analysis documents with observations, key findings, and recommendations.
  • Regularly met with stakeholder to answer questions and explain feedback.
  • Maintained communication with the quality and efficiency sector of the business to ensure the program met wider company standards.

Solutions:

  • Executive Summary – An document created for reviewing analysis and recommendations with business executives.
  • Design Document – Details recommended training solutions and general content flow.
  • Training Launch Recommendations – Reviews content recommendations and outlines the differences between training approaches when implementing a small scale vs. small scale launch.

OUTCOME:

  • My department did not develop content because we prioritize state-wide launches, but I provided guidance, reviews, and feedback that supported the stakeholder in developing training content that led to an efficient program launch in Houston.
